I like the idea of VOIP, and with a cable broadband connection and a pathological dislike of BT I'm keen to make the switch. I'm not all that keen on handing my debit card details to a company I've never heard of before to buy calling credit. What would be nice would be a Top-Up card or a good old stylee quarterly/monthly bill. Maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet.. Any ideas?

Hi Fynn and welcome to Voipuser

Ask your bank for a 'disposable' single transaction VISA reference, use Paypal. go to Tesco and buy their VOIP phone, buy Skype vouchers from one of their agents, register with Betamax and pay by bank transfer etc etc

Most companies do all they can to remove barriers to receiving funds and are aware of the need to do that.

Having said that if you pay by credit on line using an HTTPS server then you are fairly safe and the Card Provider is responsible for any resulting fraud, incorrect charging etc

Hi
No voip providers as far as I know will bill an individual in arrears, Many will do direct debit though. But even thats getting harder as there is a lot of Direct debit fraud about.
As you can imagine they dont want to provide credit to someone they have never heard of before to make calls for a month and disappear.

Ian
