| Specifically, the beta version of Skype For Asterisk is an add-on channel driver module that integrates Skype calling with Asterisk-based telephony products. Skype For Asterisk also complements small and mid-sized business users’ existing services by providing low rates for calling landline and mobile phones around the world. |

Priced on a per channel licence model.
Nothing really new here, other than there's now an "official" channel bridge. It also misses the point - Skype is far more an IM client than it is a VoIP client.
What would be of more interest is a Skype/XMPP instant messenger bridge.
I have seen/noticed about this news and it really sounds line a one-way deal in the sense Skype isn't going to support SIP on its Skype softphone (at least, I haven't seen any mention of SIP support on any Skype
release notes, yet). The later will be a plus for Skype users to call any SIP based VoIP users without asterisk.
OTOH, I am not thrill with such a partnership until Digium has GPLed and released the source codes for the skype asterisk channel module that handles such a bridge. Otherwise, just expect only an asterisk PBX system running on an x86 platform will be supported. If Digium to consider releasing and/or GPLing the source code for skype asterisk channel module and along with newly GPLed
Legerity Le88221 API source codes (see this
OpenWRT Hardware Docs on Linksys WRTP54G, Section 1.2. Misc Notes on how to obtain the source codes), then this will probably be an interesting project to explore so one can run an asterisk system with such a skype channel on a TI-AR7 CPU with a Legerety VE880 chipset based ATA devices, i.e. Linksys WRTP54G/RTP300/PAP2v2. This will make an all-in-one ATA device for SIP, MGCP, Skype, and other protocols.
