OnRelay's Open Source Adventure

Written by martyndavies on Sep 12, 2008 - 08:00 AM

UK-based OnRelay have embraced sipXecs as a platform for their MBX product, opening the door to the open-source world. MBX is a system that allows users' mobile phones to act as the extensions to a PBX, eliminating the need for desk phones and freeing workers to travel with their office phone number. So far, MBX has been delivered with PBX partners like Siemens, Cisco and Nortel, and the solution aimed at large OEMs like Swisscom.

CEO Ivar Plahte :

"OnRelay’s support of open source means that SMEs can benefit from the flexibility and features of a fully fledged mobile PBX. Open source brings feature richness and internet-level scalability to OnRelay’s mobile PBX platform."

In a change of strategy, OnRelay are hoping to attract more interest from enterprises working with a smaller scale of implementation using open source tools. They are also reaching out to next generation telcos that already take advantage of the lowered barriers to entry offered by VoIP and open source.
