I have been using Sipgate for a couple of weeks now but unfortunately I get fairly high packet loss (I know, it not their fault!). Usually more than one percent. I tried the service provided here at VoIP User and to my surprise although I got the same packet loss there was no break-up of the voice quality.

The default codec on my Vigor 2600VG is G.729A/B and this fine on VoIP User. What's happening when I use Sipgate is it switches over to G.711A.

In short, when I use G.729A/B on my router the call has no break-ups and when I use G.711A, the break-up is obvious. With VoIP User I can select any codec and it stays. With Sipgate I can select any codec but it will always go to G.711A when I make a call.

Any ideas how to fix the router to G.729A/B?

G711 CoDec bit rates is about 80Kbps and requires much more than G729. What is your up/down stream bandwidth?

It's 256 up and 1024 down. Last benchmark was 211 up and 891 down.

It seems to be a Packet Loss Concealment issue at G.711A. That's why I need to use G.729A/B.

Unfortunately Draytek are on holiday until 7th May so I won't get a reply from them 'til then (re firmware with better PLC).

The router is set to G.729A/B but Sipgate wants G.711A. Not an issue with other service providers.
