There were major problems today with both VOIP and internet services in the UK. According to knowledgable sources, the problem was due to ongoing faults with LINX, the London High speed backbone which ties in most UK ISP's

https://www.linx.net/pubtools/trafficstats.html?stats=day. The problem was made worse as ISP's re-routed traffic away from LINX onto backup routes that were swamped.
Many VOIP users had either poor quality calls or had calls dropped.
Not a good day to promote VOIP reliability unfortunately.
