hi there, like to just start by saying hello to everyone!

i work at a hotel which has a PABX with ISDN 30 with about 180 analog extenstions 20 for staff and the rest in the rooms, i want to convert 20 of them to IP Telephones, by using wi-fi phones via access point around my building.
so would i need a VOIP gateway, which converts 20 extentions to IP?

im not sure can someone guide me in the right direction and which hardware i would need?

thanks
bhavin

You will need to register these phones somewhere with either a VOIP provider or an IP PBX. Why do you want to convert 20 phones? What are you trying to achieve? Unless your hotel's PBX is IP or can be made a hybrid, then they will no longer be part of your PBX.

We're in the process of doing a hotel, where we're using channel banks to drive the analogue phones in the room, converting them in effect to IP and then having various IP phones in key places. These connect to an IP pbx and then carry the calls over a combination of BB and GSM gateways.

What's the main driver for using WIFI phones? I've not come across many that have a half decent battery life.

In short, you're going to either have to make your current PBX IP capable or replace it.

Regards

Hi.

There are various gateways that will do what you want, This is why its important to know the system, but in principle the Likes of a 24port Vegastream, Patton or Mediatrix connected to 20 20 of your extensions will do what you wish. or look at the Spectalink solutions, these are intergrated wifi solutions and used in many major Hotel chains.
