Hello, I hope I've posted my question in the correct forum.

I've recently purchased a E3128 smartphone off of ebay.

Its wifi enabled and works with my Canadian GSM simcard.
Where I'm having trouble is when trying to use/configure the VOIP feature.
The manual is a little vague, but it reads...
Quote:

8.7.3 VoIP setting
The default VoIP settings can be implemented and new VoIP settings can be added by
click the “New Profile”.
Firstly, you need specify “Profile name” (anything you want).
Then, your need key-in the “User name/password/Domain/Auth realm/Outbound proxy
address/Outbound proxy port” provided by VoIP operator.

E2831 support four VoIP profiles.
Click one VoIP server, a pop-up menu will come up. You can “Edit” and “Delete” this VoIP
server settings.

Can anyone explain what my best course of action should be?
Do I need to sign up with a VOIP provider/operator?
and if so? could someone recommend a reliable inexpensive service?
or is there a better alternative?

My goal is to be able to use the wifi 802.11g & voip feature on the phone while I'm attending College and while on my home network... without using incurring any data charges from my celluar provider.

thankyou for any help Smile Marty

ps : I originally wanted to use skype but their reply was " SIP phones will not work with Skype as we do not use SIP protocols.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the information available on this website which has helped me somewhat better understand voip and sip.

I've provided some additional details (re: forum help suggestions)
which might help those more knowledgeable answer my query.

Here's the voipuser info I've inputted to try and get this wifi/gsm phone to work with the outbound service.

UserName : MartyMcFly
password : ( my voipuser.org password )
Domain : www.voipuser.org

registar : martymcfly @voipuser.org
Outbound proxy address : ( left blank )
Outbound proxy port : 5060
Local SIP port : 5060
RTP port : 8080

Hi Marty and welcome to VoIP User!

Try changing these two:-

Domain : sip.voipuser.org
Registrar : sip.voipuser.org

That should get you up and running.

Dean
