Can you please explain what exactly did you mean by a shared line?

Sure. I would two SPA 942 phones to share two lines. So, on each phone, there will be two extension numbers. Thus, any of this two phones can pick up an incoming call on both lines.

Lets be more precise. Lets say I have two extensions: 75 and 70, and two corresponding phone lines. On each phone, I want to see 75 and 70 erxtenions. Therefore, when someone calls extension 75, both phones have the 75 blinking and any of them can pick up this call by pressing the corresponding button. And vice versa, for an incoming on 70, both phones have the extension 70 ringing.

To sum up, two phones sharing two lines. I think its called, "shared call appearance", or "shared line appearance".

Thanks for your help!

I am still not sure what exactly you want here. Do you want to configure both SPA942 units in parallel to receive calls so you can randomly pick up the incoming call from any unit? Or do you want to configure both lines on each SPA942 unit to have the same extension? For the former case, you can configure your asterisk with a pickupgroup option.

As far as I'm aware SLA only works with the Linksys phone system and they have no plans to make it work with Asterisk.

I've tried this with their mini phone system (9500?) and it does work, but as ever there are so many options to set it makes your head hurt.

Regards

Hi mazilo,
I want to configure two SPA942 units in order to have two different extensions number but sharing the same phone lines. Thus any of this phone can pick up incoming calls no matter which line is ringing.

I haven't done this; however, I believe you can configure your asterisk with a pickupgroup option so that each line on both SPA942 will ring.

I've heard about the pickup group, but it works differently. I'm trying to use the SPA942's function to do that. So I'll have one button for each line, and it will be blinking whenever the corresponding line is ringing.
