Hi all,

Is there a service that I Could set up to act as a voicemail-only provider that a DID could terminate to?

i.e. I set 15551234567, a DID number, to terminate to myaccount [!at] voicemailprovider.com (replace the [!at] with a @)

It's important that the provider accepts calls via SIP, and not over PSTN.

so that any time anybody calls 15551234567, the call goes directly to voicemail.

Ideally, the provider would have no (or at least a very high) limit to the amount of voicemail stored, that would work, too. Alternatively, if any and all voicemail is e-mailed to me and immediately deleted from the server, or automatically cleared out when the mailbox gets full (LIFO), that would work as well. Basically I don't ever want to have to log into it. I just want to get my voicemail sent to me by e-mail and forget about it. Does such a service exist?

Oh yeah, I would also require that I be able to customize the voice mail greeting. As an added bonus, I'd like to be able to call it via PSTN to check my messages if I was away from my e-mail for some reason. And in a perfect world this service would be free. Any such thing exist?

Thanks!

Actually come to think of it, it wouldn't be essential that the provider accepts calls via SIP. It would be simpler (and cheaper!) if it did, but I could get the same effect with mysipswitch...

so... is there such a beast?

You could probably manage this by using a service like Voxalot setting it to go to voicemail say after one ring. However, you seem to indicate a high volume of calls so it may be better to run an Asterisk or similar server to handle this for you.

Thanks dibsmft!

Voxalot does pretty much everything I need it to do. It's a bit irritating having to dial in through a PSTN gateway, but other than that I can't complain.

As for hosting it myself, I don't want it to be dependent on my own broadband connection, nor do I want to pay for a colo, so a hosted solution such as this seems to me to be the only option.

Thanks again!

I should have been more clear... when I said dial in through a PSTN gateway, I meant that I have to call in through sipbroker in order to check in from the road.

In an ideal world there would be a direct access number I can just configure to automatically put me through if the CID matches my mobile number... oh well!
