Hello,
I've just switched from BT to Sky as my Broadband provider. For the last 12 months I've been able to use the VOIP phone BT gave me for cheap calls over the internet.

However, having now switched to Sky (much cheaper) I'm wondering whether:

(a) The BT VOIP handset will work with the Sky Router (I'd like to avoid buying new phone)
(b) Will I still be able to use the BT VOIP number that BT gave me?
(c) If I can use the BT phone, will I need to sign up to Skype or Vantage or something like that to use it? I don't think Sky offer VOIP.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Rob.

Welcome to Voipuser.

You seem to have been overlooked or no members can answer your question. I cannot answer your fist two questions (I live in Newfoundland & Labrador). What kind of handset do you have (Model number etc.) and my guess is that even if you can keep the BT number it may take a while to transfer and cost you money.

You may find it simpler to get a voip DID (or a free DID number from Voipuser) and use a reliable voip provider. What makes sense for you depends on what you use the phone for (private or business), how many calls you make, local? trunk calls? international? If you make most of your calls to one number then alternative solutions may make sense).
