Over the course of three day March 7-9, four college teams participated in the 3rd annual Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. This is a nation wide competition that gives full time college students an opertunity to defend simulated real world business assest such as web, email and domain servers and services just to name a few from professional grey hat and penitration testers. This was the first year for VOIP and I am happy to say it was a big hit with everyone involved.
The VOIP component of the competition involved each team being given a working and configured asterisk box and two Cisco 7960 SIP phones connected to a simulated provider. The simulated provider was in fact an OpenSER registrar running in VMware with full 10 digit dialing. This will be a continued and developed part of the competition for years to come. I wanted to take a moment to thank the people of VOIPUSER.ORG for their help and assistance with getting thought learning SER and OpenSER.
