I am in Europe, and need one or two voip providers that can handle UK 0844 numbers.
I use 3 voipdiscount accounts and these don't work, although my skype one does.
Being a cheapskate I would prefer something that handles this for minimum cost as we are looking at 60 hrs to these numbers per week.
All ideas gratefully accepted. |

Welcome to VoIP User.
You shouldn't ever pay someone to provide you with an 0844 number. A search in Google shows up multiple providers of these - I would base your decision on how you feel about each provider. Cost just shouldn't be an issue.
We give them away for free here.

Thanks Dean but it is in fact the other way round, I need to call 0844 numbers from Switzerland to the UK. Voipdiscount can't handle it, Skype can, Swisscom can't even. I was looking for a VOIP providor that calls the UK 0844 numbers for cheap or free.

Ah, ok.
They are chargable numbers, so no provider would be able to let you call them for free (or cheap).
They have prices set by Ofcom at between 3p and 5p/min.
That's what you'd need to pay to call them, whoever your provider is. The provider has no control over that pricing I'm afraid.
Most 0844's are pointing at regular international destinations. Are you able to contact the person you're calling and have them give you the alternative number to dial?
If you're not too worried about the pricing and just need to call them, pretty much any UK based commercial service provider would route to them. |

Basically it's for Sky TV callbacks so I just need a voip provider that can handle the outgoing, Skype has surely got to be the most expensive. |

They're regulated to between 3p and 5p. So you shouldn't be paying more than 5p/min in any event, and the price you do pay should be the regulated amount. |

Have you had a look here? ...
http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/foru ... 94/420#430
It shows that SKY have a geo number also at 01506 421 702. It is even possible to use their 0800 and ask to be transferred.
Give it a try but don't forget they monitor CLI
If it saves you a fortune then please consider making a donation to Voipuser |

have been using the "150" numbers for a while, think I may use this sites 0870 numbers to transfer to their 0844 numbers, although caller id shows but is unrelated to anything.... (or is it). |

Try this if to call italian fixed line isn't too expansive, I remember that in a free limited promo I called also 0844 for free but I called an italian fixed number for connect to 0844 numbers. You can buy on-line a virtual PIN for the usage of card.
