I uppgraded the fw of the phone from 5.1.15a to 5.2.5. In the beginning it was working as it should, but I probably made some mistake when configuring the line 4 SIP settings (mistyped the outbound proxy or ...) and after booting I also lost the admin webinterface. And now I am stuck with the CheckingDNS message on screen ( it is not registering on any of the three working accounts), no access to IVR either nor admin WUI. Basic WUI works ok.

Is it possible to log into the phone by telnet in order to switch back on the admin webinterface?. I tried to reflash it back to 5.1.15a by tftp, but it does not work either without these webadmin rights.

Is there any other way to return to factory settings (full reset?)and regain somehow the control of the phone either by PC or by direct commands thru the dialpad or other buttons on the phone ? Any other ideas how to proceed?

I hope you have not "bricked" the phone. You can try completely isolating the phone from the internet (except power) and then power cycle and try **** on the IVR. If it works you can then try the factory reset. You can also try logging into its web page it by connecting a computer .

Thank you very much for your comments. No luck with power cycling though...

Now I know that the 942 does not even have IVR. Wink

As I only got the phone a couple of days ago I am not familiar to all its features. Therefore I assumed it had the IVR inbuilt, as is for instance in SPA-3000. I was wishing IVR would possibly be the solution as the menu commands only work partially. I can for instance save a new fixed IP address, but no factory nor custom reset seem to be possible. So I do have access to the menu, but the reset to factory settings (command 14) does not work.

Apparently the underlying problem in this case is that I have probably unintentionally saved some (probably random keystrokes) admin password. I just wonder if it would be possible to get a screencapture of the advanced admin webinterface System-page of a SPA-942. Then I could try to imagine what else I have been trying accomplish on that page. I have a couple of SPA-3000s around but their webinterface is somewhat different.

I have also learned that SPAs do not work properly with Firefox. One has to use IE in order to access the advanced admin area of the webinterface.

When updating the firmware I also noticed some strange behavior in the Date/Time - menu area (fw 5.2.5). I hope that this problem is not related to the fact that the update took place on last Friday Feb 29 of a leap year. Because when setting time (after the update)it did not at first want to accept the given data, instead it changed several times the date to March 1st. This may or may not be related to my problem. Hopefully not a Leap Yer bug...

I can connect to the unit with an old Hottub-programme which I have used with my SPA-3000s. But without the admin password I cannot access to the relevant parameters...

I still wish there is a way to regain the full control of the unit...

You make it sound as if this is a locked device. If the password is not set then there is no password but if locked you will need to find out the password from the supplier.

As far as I can tell from reading the manual, with the 942 phone you should get to the web page via the aux ethernet port. Which I gater you have done. It does not appear to use IVR access - correct. It is intended to be preprovisioned and simply plugged into the network on delivery. Direct from factory there is no password or authentication so it should not ask for a password.

The SPA3102 works OK with Firefox & Opera so this must be a problem with the older models.

The unit worked ok with the previous fw and also with this fw so that I was able to access the admin side of the webinterface. So it was not a locked device, but it is indeed now Wink As I earlier wrote,it is possible that I myself somehow activated the admin password as the webinterface did not work properly with Firefox I was using at the time. Firefox accesses well the user-menu, and even basic admin-menu, but got stuck every time I tried to access the advanced admin-menu. By the way this same phenomena appears to happen with my SPA-3000 (latest fw) too. But this is no problem as I have other browser which works ok.
