I want to know how to setup domain name to play a pointing rule in my system. Actually I have a server that runs asterisk and I pointed domain name to this server and I want to use this domain for linking with outbound and inbound proxy server. As far as iam aware I need to assign Server's IP address for this particular doamin and ports for out and in proxy. As it is pointing to this particular server the IP is already assign to it, right? How exactly is it done. Can anyone explain me step by step?
Sorry if I am not very precise, but am not expert.

thanx

Hi,

I'm sorry , but from your question it is not clear what you hope to achieve.

Are you trying to map a domain name to your public ip address ?

e.g.

asterisk.myownpbx.com == 1.2.3.4 ?

or is it the case that you have allready mapped a domain to your public IP address, and want to modify the domains "A" record so that you can advertise that:

"asterisk.myownpbx.com accepts SIP calls on port 5060"
"asterisk.myownpbx.com accepts IAX2 calls on port 4569"

so that people can call you e.g.

SIP:Pdo100@asterisk.myownpbx.com

If you can clarify what you hope to achieve , whether you have a static or dynamic IP address assigned by your ISP, and if there is any NAT / firewall involved, then we may be able to help.

Regards

BB

Thank you BB for reply,

I am sorry for not asking clear, but I am not expert in Asterisk and I still learn how to do bits and bob. You see, actually I have commercial server running asterisk that someone setup before. And for long time it was running quite well with no problem whatsoever. The problem came when the mapping domain name was taken away from me. So the pointing (mapping) domain doesn't exist any more. In this case I need to get new domain and set up as it was before. I believe I have to map a domain name to a public ip address.
If you have any info regarding my problem, it will really help me.
