Covergence have been shipping the Eclipse session border controller (SBC) appliances for a couple of years, also supplying their solution as software to run on PC platforms (regular server, Advanced TCA and IBM Blade Server).
In an interesting new twist, they are now shipping the CVA-50 (Covergence Virtual Appliance), a software SBC appliance shipped as a virtual machine. In other words, you load the image up inside a VMware player, and get a virtual x86-based SBC appliance, without loading into a separate physical box.
Covergence say that that increasingly now SBCs are pushing into the enterprise space, with SIP security and federation becoming more part of everyday running of an enterprise network, and less a telco responsibility. This strengthens their "edge" offering, and will appeal to enterprise customers that don't want to invest in proprietary boxes.
The CVA-50 supports 50 concurrent media sessions (VoIP calls), and is available for trial download at the Covergence web site.
