Basically I have been told by the MD that I need to find out how all this SIP trunk buisness works because they want to be able to scrap all these PSTN lines.
They want to know:
1) is it possible to receive calls as well as make calls on SIP? If yes, how do you set it up to receive calls this way?
2) We use a Telecomplete SIP service but whats stopping us from cutting them out and connecting our selves? What do they use at their end that when we make a SIP based call connects us to a normal PSTN number?
I don't know alot about this area and I know that they would want to use only Cisco equipment to achieve this?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. |
#1 - you would need to subscribe to DID service; google will likely find you many options if you are in one of the major economic nations. pricing will depend on the county that you are in quality, cost, and customer service will have to be balanced against each other in your decision.
#2 - you will need to either connect to the PSTN through your own tradition phone lines or through a company that has negotiated with telecom operators. the short answer: unless you have sat down in the boardroom at a major telecom and made a multi-million minute deal and run your own fiber into their premises you will have to use a third party to terminate your calls. you can shop around for the best provider. you may have to make a compromise between quality, cost, and level of customer service.
