Some IT skills are of course required. What's your experience? Windows, Linux, Mac OS ?

Linux is generally the preferred OS for software based PBX systems. Asterisk - www.asterisk.org, and www.trixbox.org (a more user-friendly version of Asterisk) for the leading two on that platform.

A good starting place would be the documentation for those two on their respective websites. If you have any specific issues with setting up I'm sure we can help.

If you require to be on Windows it gets a little more complicated.

I have experiences in PC and MAC but no linux. My main question was do i need to have a seperate network cabling for voip phones and does the voip system can hook up to my existing PABX.

Regards,

If your network is relatively modern (100MHz Cat 5 or better) then no you do not need a new network.

Yes you can connect an IP-PBX to a digital PBX.

But the first question is why would you want to?
It is unlikely an IP-PBX will offer anything you haven't already got and if it does you will be restricted to the lowest common denominators.
On a small system it is probably better, easier and cheaper to either replace the lot and lose expensive ISDN lines in favour of a couple of cheap analogue ones and an ADSL connection, or bite the bullet and have your existing system upgraded
