Hello!
I am new in the softphones and voipwise stuff and i need some help. I have a mac and I have just registered to Voipwise (unfortunately i did a payment as well). In order to use voipwise and make phonecalls I need a softphone (the voipwise phone is not installable to mac's). So i installed X-Lite
(http://www.counterpath.com/index.php?menu=Products&smenu=xlite). I have to make an account in x-lite and i don't know what SIP settings I must use. The web link that is in voipwise.com is not working
http://www.voipwise.com/en/sipp.html
I contacted them but no help from their side.

I need to fill the following:

Display name:
User name:
password:
(i know that)
Authorization user name:
Domain:
Dialing plan:

Any help will be most appreciated!
many thanx
marios

PS does anyone knows what's going on with the charges? I read that when using softphones other than Voipwise-phone, the freecalls are not free any more... And they mention about that in their website!

you may want to use the voipwise branded softphone available on the website in place of x-lite. the reason is that many of the betamax services(voipwise is one of about 25 very similar services from betamax) have started charging extra and are not offering any free calling when used with a third party SIP device/softphone; i have heard that voipwise is one.

spg

p.s. you may be able to use the first 60 minutes with any device but than need to use the branded client after that for free calls. also be for warned frustration with betamax services(the free calls that you 'pay for' in particular) dominates conversation on forums all over the net.

Spg thanx but u might not see the problem. I use a MAC. The "voipwise branded softphone available on the website" is only available in .EXE version and thus NOT EXECUTABLE in apple computers (even with using Darwine). So I have to use something else...

who are you calling? I don't suppose you can call them diectly (X-Lite to X-Lite or similar). If you can then you do not need Voipwise. You could use another voip provider (and there are may) that does not expire your time for occasional calls to PSTN. There are services that will route the calls for you.

No i dont mean directly (x-lit to x-lite). I mean call landlines, mobiles, etc.
I insist using Voipwise because:
1)I bought some credits for my account
2)It looks attractive, bcs it offers free calls in many countries (landlines only).

However, to be honest, I think that Voipwise sucks; they didn't answer my emails, when I asked them the information I need .

If anyone could suggest a (really) good voip provider together with a phone (for MAC please!) I would be glad to listen. Anyway I will still need to adjust the SIP settings

authorization user name:
etc etc

It may not be possible to connect your own SIP hardware and software phone to VoipWise, but if it is possible then these are the settings.

SIP port : 5060
Registrar : sip.voipwise.com
Proxy server : sip.voipwise.com
Outbound proxy server : leave empty
Account name : your VoipWise username
Password : your VoipWise password
Display name/number : your VoipWise username or voipnumber
Stunserver (option) : stun.voipwise.com

VoipWise SIP settings would be nearly identical to those published at the sister company, here:
http://www.voipdiscount.com/en/sipp.html

Some VoIP companies permit calling only through the Betamax software. It's your responsibility to research this issue before putting money into the account. For Betamax companies, take the base web site name, add en/sipp.html to it, and if the SIP instructions are there then you can use your own SIP client.
