any suggestions for the lowest possible price on SIP termination(i will consider quality after i examine prices so really want to keep this discussion price centric) to cell phones in europe (germany, italy, and UK in particular) with all the years i have been using VOIP and SIP i still using old fashioned calling cards or web callback services(like nonoh) for nearly all of this type of call. it is not that i would not prefer to use my SIP phone but i simply get better prices that way. and cost for me takes precedence over convenience or using the device of my choice. particularly considering that i only pay about half of what i have been able to find in a SIP based services for these types of calls and they remain the major bulk of my personal telecoms expense each month.

spg

p.s. as a benchmark betamax's voicetrading is the lowest i have found. does anyone know a SIP termination service with cheaper rates for european cells? perhaps someone knows of local providers in germany, italy or UK that provide discounted rates?

It looks to me as if you are well informed, in touch with the market and well able to spot a deal. I am therefore a bit surprised that you actually find calling cards to be a workable option as most would argue that the logistics of regular use mean that there are a lot of hidden costs that make them something of a lesser concept other than from a convenience point of view whilst travelling. (The published cost per minute is not usually the actual cost per minute)

(Other references on the forum cite 'short minutes' sixty second billing, poor availability of lines at peak periods, poor voice quality etc etc)

Of course lower SIP costs are possible but you then move to the regions of Wholelsale provider selling bulk minutes. If you can pre purchase 10,000 minute blocks at a time then you are going to be able to negotiate better prices.

The betamax source you quote is one of the lowest, don't forget that when calling Cellphones in Europe the caller pays 100% of the connection cost (unlike the US where it is shared). Which is why it seems comparatively expensive.

Best option will often be to get an account with a SIP provider in the country that you plan to call frequently. They should be able to offer best National rates. If you set up the dial plan at your end correctly you can then direct the call to the relevant provider on a 'least cost routing' basis.

For rates not charged per minute and calls not rounded up to next minute use www.mytcom.it

If you are looking for wholesale rates then the Betamax list comes closest but at 'a cost' ! No customer service, difficult payment methods and no performance level guarantees.

The Italian provider you mentioned is just a re seller - again you will find better rates with a wholesaler so it all depends on your call volume.

Just sign up on their website, you get a few free calls to test with, then you have to pay for your 120 days of free call entitlement.

In that case the issue is more to do with configuring Asterisk to use a Voip client, why not take a look at the resources in the Asterisk section of the Voipuser forum.
