Hi everyone!
My first post here, so please be gentle
Got one of the above phones, good piece of hardware - it has FXO port and SIP capabilities, all build in to a DECT cordless phone.
I was wondering if anyone managed to upload a standard firmware to enable it to handle the usual 6 SIP accounts. At the moment it is locked to one, which preconfigured for tesco's service.
I would like to be able to register it on to other providers such as voipuser or sipgate to for example and assign incoming numbers to other handsets.
At the moment if I run update firmware from the phone gui it says the phone has already got latest firmware installed.
I was unable to find and firmware files on the Siemens site to download and update phone locally.
If anyone has experience with it, I would be very grateful for info.
Many thanks
Vlad. |

Hi, I have the same phone and was annoyed to find that Tesco has locked out the abulity to add extra voip accounts and also the use of gigaset.net Like yourself I assumed that loading the latest Siemens gigaset software would over-ride the tesco's software and rectify the problem. Sorry it doesn't. It appears that Tesco has had the phone locked, so anyone who has a way of unlocking the base station I would be grateful.
You can download the latest software from gigaset by putting this link into your 'user defined' space in the settings/miscellaneous page of your web configurator.
Http://gigaset.siemens.com/chagall/2/chagall097_02.bin this downloads the latest version of the S450IP firmware (020970000000 / 041.00)which includes the eco mode, but little else as Tesco has disabled everything else.
If you find a way of over-riding Tesco so that other accounts can be added, please get in touch with me. |

Hi all, if anyone gets any further with this I would be forever grateful. There are some posts floating around the net that relate to re-flashing a Targa DIP 450, which I believe is the same Siemens S450, but nothing I could make any use of.
Cheers |

Looking at the image file, the string "Tesco" is in the file you mention above so maybe this is another version for Tesco. If someone has the URL for downloading a normal "non Tesco" image for the 450 it might be worth a try. |

I think there is more to it than just the downloadable update. I suspect the update checks the contents of the existing ROM not only to prevent a "downgrade" but also to allow only certain things to be changed. There must be a way of re-programming the whole thing but it may well be only via a "back door" of some kind. I believe the software is open source and is somewhere on the Siemens website. Of course, the "open source" bits are probably only to do with VOIP and not the actual operation of the phone itself so we may be onto a loser.
I find it very annoying that Tesco has had the DP450 crippled and does not mention in their literature that the phone cannot be used with voip services other than their one. I assumed that I would be able to have multiple SIP accounts on handsets.
Under their terms and conditions, I have 28 days if I wish to return it so I'll play around a bit more and if I have no success with un-crippling it, will take it back for a refund. |

From memory, people have managed to reflash the targa(lidl) dip450's.
Do a google translation on:
http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread ... ga+DIP+450
They use a couple of different \Chagall\ images, which are flashed by using the option of local update or a non siemens hosted server. I've tried both ways with a couple of these but the tesco device indicates that it's an incorrect image.
There must be more to it, i.e more than one file needed in the directory? I think finding the correct files or custom files is the key here. It's annoying, because it would appear that it can be done. |

Just been to tesco, and seen these on the shelf for £60 quid!
I'm really tempted to buy one in hope that this flashing shnizzle can be figured out - shame I don't have the skills to help get it going. :'(
Siemens firmware change log page: http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,h ... ml#content
I've just emailed them, asking for a direct URL to the firmware. But, as voipukuser said above, the image probably wont work (I might buy it and take it back within the 28 days too).
Could a quick and dirty hack be as simple as modifying the 'proper' image version to match the Tesco version that the DP450 expects? I guess not. |

What an interesting reply I got back from Siemens!
| Quote: | In regards to the query sent about S450IP, there is no URL available to perform the update.
The only way is throughout the handset, but regarding your issue we would like to recomend you to visit www.voip-info.org.

Bad spelling, and referring me to voip-info.org?! Maybe the guy who replied did a quick Google search before replying. |

Personally, I'd say yes.
It's over £100 including VAT, if Tesco are selling it for £40 cheaper, which option would you take?
If I needed an S450IP I'd probably pay the price, but as it's only for hobbyish use... bugger that. |

I think you should find that you can buy an ATA (not locked) + a multi handset Dect phone set cheaper than this for only a little more than the Gigaset although prices do seem a bit high still in the UK. This would give you more features and is probably better for a hobbyist. |

Yer, I personally had considered that, but I like the two calls you can make in parellel on the S450IP.
I've got a four handset dect set but obviously each handset isn't a seperate extension. I've seen the sets where you can 'dial' a handset and some asterisk scripts to do it automatically, but it's all a bit clunky.
It's a shame that 'proper' dect-sip gateways cost a few hundred, at best! We've got a basestation here in the building I work in, for the Avaya INDeX. If that used SIP, it'd have gone missing by now!
Oops, sorry vbel - slightly derailing your thread here! :$ |

Hi
If you want decent sip/dect the choices are at one end the Aastra dect solution based on the Detewe openphone or at the other end the Snom M3 at less than a £150, Both of these allow multiple accounts on a basestation.
TBH I wouldnt recommend the Siemens at all.

OOh, the Snom M3 looks pretty good, spec wise! Ta
How come you would not recommend the Siemens at all?
Comes down to price again though unfortunately. The Tesco DP450 is tempting (if hackable) because it's so cheap.
Maybe I should say F'it and forfill my nerdy needs anyway? |

Balls, I forgot to mention that Siemens woulnd't provide a URL for the firmware download, instead they insist on using the automatic function built into the thing. |
