SkypeIn to withdraw 0207 London numbers

Written by joeturner on Nov 22, 2007 - 10:26 AM

Other than a very brief note on a skype blog I can find no reference to it on the Skype website, but users are blogging that their 0207 skypeIn numbers are to be cancelled at short notice.

In fact, it appears that the numbers may even be reallocated elsewhere. Which is a potential problem for businesses who have relied on it for printed literature, for example.

You can't get 0207 numbers anymore as they've all been allocated, so perhaps they've been told to hand them back for fixed lines customers

The story is now in the Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.j ... ype125.xml

And was originally in the Register.

This just points out the need to

a) Use a service provider that calles itself a telephone company. (Skype doesn't)

b) Use one that is a member of ITSPA so that number porting in such circumstances is possible. Such as Voipuser (and Voipfone Wink)

btw anyone who has 0207 numbers with Skype can port them to any VoIP provider who uses Gamma Telecom eg Vonage & Voipfone)
