Send SMS through Betamax from your mobile phone

I just posted BetamaxSMS on my site. Using this java app you can send (almost) free SMSes via one of the VoIP site of Betamax such as VoipBuster, VoipWise en Webcalldirect.
This can turn out cheaper than using the normal SMS feature of the telephone network, especially when you have a flatfee internet subscription of course.

Yikes! Lets hope you don't mean free SMS messages ! Just imagine how much spam that would generate. You can originate a text message on a PC but after that you have to involve the services of a mobile operator. They make a charge for using their infrastructure.

Of course providers like Clickatell provide the SMS software free but you will have to pay for each message sent.

I use Fishtext on my Nokia E71 to send even cheaper SMS than Betamax. Its flawless to install and use. Texts to any UK number is just 2p for full 160 characters and international texts are even cheaper. Good customer service if ever you need it. Check your balance immediately and an online site to use too. If you know anyone else who also uses Fishtext you can text each other for free! Use your own number or get a virtual one. Been using it for ages without any issues at all.

Betamax brand sms can also be sent using their own Voipbuster mobile Java client, which can also set up callback

But I agree that since they seem to have ceased their occasional free message offers, and Vyke sms tariffs went up from 2 tp 6 cents, Fishtext is better value
