Here are the settings that seem to work for the cisco ATA 186.

Let me know if they work for you. I must admit that i only changed some fields until it started working so it might be that it is far from optimal but so far i've been able to talk with the owners of this cisco at least twice a week for 3 months now (Yes mom) Smile

Also note that this setup has used STUN (NatServer option).

Regards,
Tjardick

OK, here with go..

My basic symptom is (was) that registration fails.

My environment is a Cisco ATA-188 connected to an ADSL using a Zyxel router with NAT/PAT. The ATA-188 is running V3.1.0 and I have tried V3.2.0. It is configured with a static IP address (192.168.1.200) and ports 5060, 3478, and 800x are configured in the Zyxel to forward to the ATA.

[Note: I have now edited and removed the rest of the original information. It is now working correctly and I want to explain how.]

I implemented the configuration from the original post, but was not successful. After a lot of work, I discovered that, in this case, completely removing all NAT configuration (no STUN server, no NATserver, NatTime=0, etc.), the ATA works perfectly. Note that I also removed all port forwarding from the Zyxel router.

In the end, I started with a factory reset of the ATA running V3.2.0 and changed the following parameters:

UID0:username
PWD0:password
Proxy:voipuser.org
SipRegOn:1

and it worked through my NAT ADSL router.

Boy, am I surprised!

Could it be that your zyxel is voip aware and by that if you start using stun it can't handle it properly ?

Unfortunately the answer is, I don't know. There is no hint anywere on the Zyxel website or documentation that it is SIP-aware.

Google searches got a number of hits, but the most interesting were in Denmark, where my language skills are extremely limited Confused.

I did a quick test to see if the ATA is UPnP-aware, since the Zyxel supports that. The ATA worked perfectly with UPnP disabled on the router.

So, in the end, everything is working extremely well, but I don't know why. I will be trying it with my home ADSL this weekend, with an older model of the Zyxel ADSL router. If there is any difference, I'll mention it here.

Hopefully not, as I'm overdue to call my mother.... Wink .

Just to complete the loop on this.

With an slightly older Zyxel ADSL router, the configuration listed by tjardick first in this thread works correctly, together with NAT port forwarding in the router.

In a newer Zyxel ADSL router (with the same firmware version number: V3.40), the ATA-188 only works with all STUN/NAT stuff removed, including port forwarding.

Go figure!

Thanks to tjardick. Mom says "Hi". Wink
