Following is our checklist of requirements for a VoIP provider=who would you recommend?

1. VoIP provider should support Trixbox 2.0.
2. Provider should allow WAN communication for the Trixbox computer behind NAT.
3. Provider should provide complete assistance in configuring Trixbox to connect their services and also the configurations related to firewall and router.
4. Provider should allow us to run a .wav file on the dialed call.
5. Provide should allow recognition of DTMF digits.
6. Timely troubleshooting assistance.

thanks!

Hi,

Can't really help with a named provider in what looks like the Far East, I think China Telecom and Hutchinson have things sewn up pretty tightly over there.

However I can offer some general answers to your questions.

You need to start by recognising that Trixbox is an open source software package, as such it is mostly a 'Do It Yourself' solution.
Not withstanding the possibility of finding a local integrator, your support comes from forums like Voipuser or Trixbox.org, while we try and offer as much help as we can, support is not in any way guaranteed. If this is not adequate, then you need to look at least to the paid for version of Trixbox Pro, or more likely Fonality's own PBX offerings.

Any VoIP service that operates with SIP or IAX protocols will connect to Trixbox i.e. not Skype or (as I understand it) Microsoft. Many offer the necessary details to make Asterisk configuration easier. Problems with DTMF and playing WAV files are mostly irrelevant, if you can connect then they will work.

For your internet connection needs, ensure that your provider is not blocking VoIP communications, ideally with some form of Quality of Service policy. NAT circumvention is more a case of configuration on your internet router to forward relevant ports to the server than a problem.

No, we are in the US (although our dev team is in India!). We have been having issues mostly with sending/receiving DTMF. Asterisk hasn't been a problem - we register to Asterisk PBX through Net code.

Typially the providers(e.g ConnectVoIP) don't have technical help we need

As aleady mentioned Trix is an opensource product, There is no reason why a supplier should have any need to assist you in your setup. If you do not have the inhouse knowledge to configure your server then google is your best option and asking in forums to see if anyone else is using them and their setup.

to expect a carrier to tell you how to configure your equipment othe rthan the basic settigs IE username, password, proxy and dtmfmode is asking a little too much...

I currently use www.voicenetwork.ca

They have DIDs in Canada and USA.

The only problem with them is sending DTMF tones from a landlines/cell to them. e.g. if in Asterisk you configure the option to confirm the call when using follow me setting, so you hit 1 to accept or 2 to decline. Those DTMF tones won't get passed down.

They know about the issue and I spent hours with them trying to fix it, hopefully in the new year they are going to replace their switch to fix this issue.

Another service i would recommend is www.Les.net

Both provides support IAX2 to overcome WAN/NAT problems, as well as SIP.

Cheers,

Jakub
