Hello

I'm a college student and soon I have to pay a lot of money for college. I'm thinking of doing some VoIP work to make some money to help with expenses. I want to terminate calls to some international countries and sell it to other companies and people . Is there any luck in the business? or too many people do it now and its hard to find customers? Please comment

Thanks

Think you are flogging a dead horse.

There are white box solutions that you can sell on, which will cut the cost of the initial outlay, but it will be a full time occupation selling your service.

That said, it might be possible to make a small profit by selling more locally to your fellow students?

What do you mean by "white box" what is that?

and do you know if the big companies like Global Crossing or others buy their minutes from other termination companies or do they terminate everything for ALL the countries themselves?

A "White Box" solution is where you brand somebodyelses service as your own. The level is up to you, from basic routing (which is what Voipuser effectively has), right through call handling and billing.

You should not let yourself get confused between the carrier tiers. Global Crossing has a tier 1 international network, but Global Crossing the ISP does not necessarily use or terminate via it.

However, whether they are an International tier 1 carrier, or a local ISP with no external network of their own, they all use whoever provides the service levels they require at the best price.

Do not go looking at Tier 1 carriers, unless you have massive volumes of data to shift and a bank balance to match, they won't talk to you. It is a very dark and murky world, where Global Crossing is a very minor player.

If you can find someone with good rates to specific countries, I'd guess there is a market for selling low cost calling cards to students.

Why ? When all students have access to broadband, have their own PC and every chance of using Skype or one of many SIP based alternatives at very much lower cost than using a calling card.

Calling cards are NOT well regarded in the market, people pretty soon work out that whole minute billing, 50 second minutes, calls charged before being answered, unspecial prices and all the other disadvantages mean they are just not of any use in any kind of open market where there is plenty of consumer choice, high broadband takeup and plenty of connection options.
