In a new press release, Apple are advising iPhone owners not to unlock their phones.

They believe that future updates to phone and iTunes will conflict with unlocked phones, but I suppose owners who have unlocked their phones have already decided to take that risk?

Probably means, "We are working on an update that WILL break your unlocked phone, Just give us time"

Seems a very good reason not to buy an iPhone .... not that I would anyway!

and more on this, from Apple fans, many of whom have been Apple customers for many years:-

I have a funny feeling this is going to backlash on Apple, severely. By all means block updates from working, but don't actually break the devices...

I can't believe that Apple would do this deliberately. Re-lock them to AT&T yes, but killing phones is just causing more support activity for themselves, for AT&T and for the retail outlets. The handset business is a tough one to be in, and I just think that Apple have underestimated how hard it will be to keep pace with the needs of customers and operators.
