Hi ,
is there any list of VOIP providers that will allow user ID's to be just numbers?
I looking to use a PAP2 2.0 or a Blackberry VOIP device and they accept only numeric characters in ID field.
I am also looking for VOIP providers that are allowing calls to landlines (free or paid).
So FWD is out because you can do just IP to IP calls.
Thanks |

I imagine that the PAP2 can process letters but your input device will not? You should be able to write a dial plan that can get you around the problem. There are plenty of providers that allow a numberic IDs, and a few that I know are, Mywebcalls, VBuzzer, Voxalot, Free world dialup (FWD), Wengophone (I think) and voipuser also gives you a number. SipBroker can be used to give you number to call a alphabetic ID. |

Thanks for the reply, but I need to make some cosiderations:
PAP2 will allow alphabetical characters but PAP2 2.0 wich is the latest version with new software (1.0.3 if I am not mistaken) will allow only numeric characters.
Vbuzzer do not accept ID's with numeric characters only.I am a subscriber and I tried it -they have an internal numeric ID wich is good only to dial someone by this ID , you cannot log into your account with it...
For the rest of list I have to try them...
Once again,
Thank you for the help. |

FWD ID's are "phone numbers" but you cannot dial POST numbers from it.And for receiving calls from POST probably you can forward them if you have a phone number asigned with someoane else. But this is not going to work for me. |

Are you sure that is correct? I have never seen a PAP2 but that surprises me a bit. I know that MyWebCalls uses numbers and provides an acceptable service. |

Yes, I am positive.
I am talking about the ones sold in USA for Vonage .You can unlock them but that is no help if you don't have a provider with SIP configurations for ID's only numerals....This is first hand experience.
Yuo can also check on Vbuzzer forum for PAP2 2.0 and you will see from a different source.

Ah, yes, you did not say that it was unlocked. I assumed that it was a proper NA device. The problems may be associated partly with the Vbuzzer set up though. |

I should add that the ATA that I have is the Linksys 3102 and it is quite a bit different to the PAP2. Perhaps Mazilo can expand on the problems/solutions for the device that you have. |

You can set up an account at Voxalot.com (username is numeric) which can then act as a proxy to a number of other VoIP providers whose credentials you have to supply in voxalot config pages. You can then use any of those providers for outbound calls with your device registered to voxalot. For a small annual fee, you can even have inbound calls proxied as well.
Of course it all boils down to whether you can trust Voxalot to keep username/passwords of your VoIP accounts safe, but IMHO it's worth the risk. |

You could also try to make an account at Zoonte. They allow numerical usernames. |
