Public WiFi Insecurity Shock

Written by martyndavies on Aug 13, 2007 - 04:43 PM

Another story from Black Hat reported by the BBC: apparently it's not safe using public WiFi hotspots. Errata Security showed that you can monitor WiFi and steal cookies, allowing access to systems like MySpace and Facebook that rely on cookies for convenience logging back on. I hope no-one out there is logging on to VoIP User from public hotspots Wink ?

Bear in mind that we're talking here about public hotspots that deliberately don't use encryption, because that would make it much less convenient for people to use. Even using WEP would be better, even considering that it can be broken in 5 minutes.

As Cullen Jennings of Cisco said at the recent VON, "the greatest danger is not turning the security on in the first place".
