Hi all,

I appreciate this has probably been asked loads of times but I'm hoping someone out there might know the best voip provider for me to use.
Basically, I have free calls in the evenings and weekends but have a SIP compatible mobile phone with a data (3G) plan...
It costs me 40p a minute to make calls at peak time to landlines. I only make a few landline calls on my mobile during the day, usually to my home number after leaving work...
The calls last a few minutes generally. I signed up here as it seemed like the best solution but worry about abusing the system and feel I should sign up to a proper provider...
I have used internetcalls.com for a bit which gave 'free trial calls' but couldn't really understand 'free days' where UK was a free country to call.
It says you need to credit your account, 10 euros (about £7?) gives 90 'freedays'.

I want a service where you only pay a small amount and have unlimited free UK calls with no credit expiry or long time till expiry. Is 90 or 120 days the most?
Can you get away with £1 of credit to call UK landlines for months?
Or am I being totally unrealistic?[/code]

The companies that provide the service need to make a little money!
If you only make a few calls per week and they are short then you want a provider that charges per second and does not expire your money. There are not many of them. The one I know of is mywebcalls and a small sum will last you quite a long time.

Do you call any mobiles?

I use voipcheap.com, which gives the 90 days free landlines calls for 10 euros. At the end of the 90 days your credit is still there and you pay around 1p/min until you pay another 10 euros and get 90 more days.

In practice, I dial a lot of mobiles (around 6.5p/min with voipcheap) and use up the credit long before the free days have expired, so often have about a year of free days.

voipcheap.com is one of many services run by Betamax. There is a useful price comparison here:-

Note that voipcheap.co.uk (as distinct from voipcheap.com) is not cheap!

cheers guys
I've tried voipcheap.com (.co.uk doesn't do free calls to UK landlines I noted...), it seems to be the same as many of the other sites where you get 90 freedays for a minimum credit of 10 euros. I think in that case I don't think I'd really make use of that amount of credit and I'd be crediting the account to get 'freedays' after 90 days so wouldn't be that much value for money for me I think.
I checked mywebcalls (.com?) and that looks good as the call prices to the UK per minute are like $0.011 and you can credit just $5 (£2.59) which would equate to over 7 hours of calls to UK landlines...
I think that would work well as I can't see any indication of a connection charge and credit would only expire if no calls are made for 3 months...

Just a quick check on the freedays concept offered by several of the VOIP providers...

From my understanding you pay £6.80 (10 euros) to get 90 days where you can make calls to any of the free destinations up to a total of 300 minutes each week for those 90 days...
After that time you still have your credit if you don't make any other calls but that credit would then go into making any more landline calls after those 90 days...at the standard rates.

I'm trying to decide which is better between voipcheap.com and internetcalls.com...

I'm guessing they're all part of this Betamax group offering the same deal?

Voiptalk offer free unlimited local and national calls to land lines for 9.99 a month. You also get discounted rates for other destinations including international and mobiles. also you receive a free local geographic incoming number.

Cheers

Whit Voipbusterpro you get 1 year of unlimited calls only 10 (you get 5 euro of credit) euro but a connection fee of 3.9 euro cents to phone fixed calls. 120 days is the most for all Betamax's providers/"companies".
