"Failed to connect to TCP server at VoIP Users"
Am I the only one who have troubles with the server? |

No - sorry - we went and firewalled it by mistake.
Hope to have it back shortly... |

Hi,
Many thanks for your port testing application, I get the below error while checking the port connectivity.
"Failed to Connect to TCP server at Voip User." then, "Connection closed gracefully"
When I check the log, "2/18/2009 10:04:03 PM : Connecting to server..."
Any ideas why this is failing?
Rgds

Hi, the app looks promising, but I always get a:
| Quote: | | Failed to connect to TCP server at VoIP User |
is the server up & running?

I have a feeling that port 8585 TCP needs to be open for the program to work. |

Hi dibsmft, thx for your answer!
| dibsmft : | | I have a feeling that port 8585 TCP needs to be open for the program to work. |
...have checked with different tool (running only on win) on a win-box in same lan: when forwarding the port to this machine, all 8585, 5060 and 10000-20000 are open as set in the firewall.
when using the win-version of testports on the same box, testports.exe also couldn't connect to VoIP User...
and when changing the portforwarding again to the linux box the same... failed to connect...
May be the Server is down? |

Does anybody know other testport tool for linux?
This one sounds very promising, simple and good enough, but just doesn't work for me.
Or has anybody else managed to get it run recently? If so, I will try again o make it run - but it even does not run on a win box, where I'am absolutely sure, that the ports are open and a different tool (which is unfortunately win-only) proofes it.

NAI VirusScan claims that it's a virus: New Malware.gr
Also is the server down? Cannot connect to Voipuser. |

You should be able to log into sip.voipuser.org
(I am currently logged in).
Windows virus scanners often give false positives. I have not seen any reports that there is a virus in the
forwarded port scanner. |

Yep, agreed, it's probably heuristics that thinks the backdoor connection = Trojan. The purpose is legitimate and quite clear in this case.
Sorry, the I cannot connect was not worded well. When running the port forwarding application, I got the error "Failed to connect to TCP server at VoIP User. |

You need to open port 8585 to allow the program to connect. Read this...

Is that 8585 outgoing or inbound? I thought it was outgoing, which I haven't blocked. If it's inbound then it's probably blocked, but I do think Dean meant outgoing.
The conclusion at the moment is that ISP is blocking all inbound ports, and they claim they don't. I think customer service don't know what they are talking about...
Thanks!
PS did some packet sniffing. It's trying to connect outgoing to Voipuser.org:8585, and the port is closed? |

Open the port and forward it to the computer on which you are running the ports program. The programs has to be able to communicate and that is the port it uses. I doubt if your ISP in blocking ports (except perhaps email server related) it is likely you Windows firewall. |

I'm not NATed on this connection, it's direct RAS via an USB 3G device. Windows firewall is off. No other firewalls (I used to have another ISP connection and could open ports).
I still think that port 8585 on voipuser.org should be open and from my computer it's not. Can you check if the port forwarding test application works from your location?
Thanks

The program does not work as most ports are blocked on this machine but it has worked when I have forwarded the port. It is a linux machine (Linux Mint nmap might give useful info).
I suppose if you are using 3G you don't have a lot of control and the port might not be available. |
