Another programme trying to use the network port will tend to give you that message. |

hi guys,
i just forwarded my ports and tried to test it with the application. 3 of the ports were done successfully but the port 5060 failed for me. I'm pretty sure i've forwarded them correctly so i was wondering if there's anything i can do now.
thanks a lot! |

Hi all,
My Bitlord software tells me that l need to open UDP ports and my DHT icon does not go green, it only stays orange and my connection is extremly slow. I am on an 8mb line that opoerates at about 3-5 mb bandwidth.
My port forwarding is being blocked for some reason. I have opened the ports in my virtual server (Router) That connects through a wired modem.
I think my firewall has been allolwed to transfer info but am not sure. It also appears that if l right click on my network icon and go to "Change firewall settings, these are slightly different to what l have configured in the firewall it self!
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Hi Smirnoff and welcome to Voipuser
Have you checked with your ISP that they do permit VOIP connections and do not have a policy of blocking port 5060 as some certainly do.
Please name (and shame !) your provider as others may be able to make some input as a result |

Hi,
The port forward tester is no longer working for me. I just wondered if the server had fallen over again?
Thanks,
Woody. |

Strange - it seemed to be up.
I've restarted it anyway, just in case. Try again now? |

Dean,
You are the man! What service! Thanks for doing this so quickly. It still doesn't work for me - I think I need to wrestle with Kerio and that damn Dlink 604+ router again!
Thanks,
Woody. |

T H W A C K !
Try now
I used to have an old Austin Allegro that used to do this from time to time - a good smack on the starter motor with the wheel nut spanner used to get it going |

Sorry if I am asking a daft question here but I have looked through all the info about the port tester and I can't find the answer.
Does the port tester work if you are running it on a PC, and want to test ports that are forwarded to a separate SIP device.
I have a Wanadoo Livebox ADSL router connected to a Sipura 2000 ATA. I have given the ATA has a static IP address of 192.168.1.100, which is outside the DHCP range of the router.
I have set the router to forward to the ATA's IP address the ports recommended my my provider Gradwell for the Sipura.
When running the port tester on my networked PC, it connects OK to the server, but reports failed for all of the forwarded ports.
However - if I forward a port to the PC instead (192.168.1.9), the port tester works OK and I get a green.
Have I misunderstood the tester - or is my router failing to forward ports to my ATA?
Many thanks for your help. |

Hi Guy and welcome to VoIP User.
No, this application can only detect incoming packets sent to it, so it will only work for ports forwarded to the PC it's running on.

Yup.
Can't see any connections from the IP address you posted from though.
Are you sure you're not firewalling it? |

This is a useful tool, but I suspect that I'm not the only linux duffer around, so I thought I would post how I got it to work for the sake of others like me.
First, it needs to be on the machine that the port is forwarded to. It sounds obvious doesn't it, but I didn't immediately pick that up, and I notice a post asking that question.
I then used WinSCP to put the uncompressed program onto the linux box. If you don't have it go to Http://winscp.net/eng .
The first problem I had was where to put it. If you are going to sign in as root then you can put it in the folder with the name root, but I put it in the bin folder because that seemed to be where all the programs were.
Wherever you put it you need to make it executable. In WinSCP you can right click on it and choose properties, near the bottom you then click all the X boxes. If you are not using WInSCP then you will have to use the CHMOD command. Posts in November 2005 from rgower and Dean give you two ways:
or if your are logged in as root:
Then I ran:
testport 5060
but if you have it in the root folder then you will need
./testport 5060.
To get the help I found that I needed to type
testport --help
i.e. two hyphens
But the command to show the log just has 1 hyphen before the l (l for log - not 1 as in one, this looks obvious here but on the command line it isn't so clear) e.g.
testport 5060 -l
Many thanks to Dean for the tool.
Hope this helps someone. |

Moonrakre - thanks for taking the time to write that, I'm sure it will help someone. Applications like TrixBox has bought a whole load of people to the World of linux who would certainly be tripped up by all the things you mention.
Of course when I wrote it, that probably wasn't the case so I never bothered to write any help for the linux version.
<Totally off topic>We are witnessing the OS becoming application driven.</Totally off topic>
