After some months of speculation, it's finally here.
I upgraded my
Nokia N800 today to the latest version and to my surprise a Skype client was mentioned in the menu and as soon as I clicked the icon, the N800 offered to download and install it.
Did a quick test call with Martyn and audio quality was really nice, on headset as well as speaker.
Compared that with a quick
Googletalk call and quality was noticably lower than Skype.
Also the
Gizmoproject Client is now mentioned in the menu and when clicked on you are taken to the site to download it.
That now gives us 3 voice protocols/clients available for the N800 : GizmoProject (SIP), Googletalk (Jingle/XMPP) and Skype.
Nokia do state on the release notes that the Nokia Internet Call client will expire somewhere in August so I guess that means no more video calls to other devices for now, other than with the N800 itself.
Let's hope that Gizmoproject and Googletalk both release video clients (I doubt it any time soon though) or that Skype at least makes a new version that will support the N800 Webcam.
If you've got an N800 feel free to add my to your contact list.
