Google offer Cash for your Gadgets

I was chatting to Jeff Pulver yesterday about Facebook Applications/Widgets. He commented that he felt Facebook need to show its developers a little $love$ to enable them to assist in improving the Facebook platform itself.
Something like this latest offering from Google could be an interesting model to follow.
